The Loop, Central Laos

A great weekend away was a motor bike trip in March in central Laos. It was 3 days experiencing such a beautiful part of the country and being on a bike made it easy to get amongst village life and experience a lot of things along the way. The region is famous for its limestone cliffs, caves and tobacco farms.

Another overnight bus in Laos and roadside break down. Arrival time changed from 12am - 5am.

Around Thakhet

Day 1 on the road to Nakai

Buddha  Cave

Ice cream cart always close by!

Visiting Karlee, an Australian volunteer living in Nakai and her beautiful lake side bungalow!

Local Market for some travel supplies...mostly for me to layer up!

Day 2 heading north

Local village stop for sugar cane juice

Another flat tyre roadside stop  - always a local near by to help with a quick bike fix

UXO boats - The Second Indochina War left Laos being the most heavily bombed country per capita in the history of warfare. Locals often use old bombs and bomb cases for different things such as the boats below. Collection of this material is suicidal and even though areas have been cleared, unearthed UXO is still being found causing a significant amount of death and injury each year in Laos. Its crucial in many parts of Laos to stick to ready made paths and not touch anything suspect.

Day 3 Mahaxai Caves and on to Thakhek
